You forget how many stars there are until you get far enough from a city to see them. Out by the Koyna backwaters the sky just switches on — proper constellations, the works.
The trip threw in a bonus: a bright green vine snake posing on the red earth like it knew it was the most photogenic thing on the trail. We kept a respectful distance and let it have its moment.
